Attendee stories

Robert Larman

I am Rob Larman, a former Property graduate, currently working as a senior surveyor in Property Services Anglia and South East. I’ve been with Network Rail for three years.

The Development Day provided me with the confidence to put myself forwards into a new role outside of my previous experience. The inspiration from others who have been through similar situations coupled with the awareness skills learned have made a significant difference. I look forward to continuing my professional development aided by taking opportunities like the Development Day.

Jill Stephenson

I’m Jill Stephenson, a town planning manager for the North West & Central region, in the Planning & Land Services team. I manage a small team based in Manchester, providing planning services route-wide.

Last year, I responded to a call for help to arrange the Development Day as part of a working group and also attended as a delegate. Both were thoroughly enjoyable and inspiring, which gave me the motivation to look for further opportunities to broaden my involvement in the wider people initiatives.

Earlier this year, I took on a completely new challenge as the chair of the People Panel; a role that is equally stretching and rewarding. It’s such a privilege to work with a like-minded group to deliver our people panel initiatives, whether that’s giving Property colleagues the chance to have mentoring or coaching sessions, developing their line management skills, or to improving the way in which new team members are welcomed through induction.

I’d encourage everyone to engage in these initiates; and if you’re not sure how to get involved or which aspect of the programme is for you, then please get in touch with me or any of the panel members. Equally, if you have any ideas for future People Panel initiatives, we’d love to hear from you.
